While going through airport security, the lady operating the machine flags my carry on. It had been smooth sailing up to that point. I check-in online, I got my stickers for my bags at the front and through TSA screening and off I was to my gate. Until my bag doesn’t come out the other end of the machine and I look at the operator scrutinizing the items in there. She doesn’t know what she’s seeing and I’m standing there thinking [in my near bare feet] was I supposed to take all my electronic gadgetry out and put it with my laptop? It’s been awhile since I traveled by air.
So the fellow that had asked me about liquids in my carry on is now taking my bag to the end of the way to take a looksie. He pulls out my power adapter for my laptop, my mouse, then moves to the other compartment where my Zen is pulled out, then the mini speaker I have for it, ear buds, change purse, wallet, my travel usb adapter kit, SD card to flashdrive gazmo, flashdrives, portable usb hard drive [I'm still crushing on that!] and my glasses case. The writing tools and papers were left alone. Then he rifles through the front most compartment for the item said operator didn’t know what it was.
‘I have to tell you this is the geekiest bag I have seen today’
Turns out it was my flash drives, the ones I keep in my glasses case…that way I don’t lose track of them. One of them is the retractable kind, so mebbe it looks weird on the screen. Be that as it may, I gave a man a story. And I walked away thinking it was a good thing I didn’t have any unread comic trades that I could have taken to read.

Geek/tomboy fusion that loves learning things, power tools, DIY $things, a great story and on repeated occasions, badassery. By nature, I’m a creative person. Nice days means you’ll likely find me working in my yard. Basically my brain? It’s like Johnny 5: Needs input. In closing, Kevin Conroy is a GQMF in my book. As is Mark Hamill, Tim Daly and Clancey Brown. [

I have a pen that doubles as a 1gig flash drive, and on an airport scanner it looks like a hidden knife is inside the pen. I’ve learned not to bring it with me anymore after several thorough manual searches at airport security checkpoints.
Oh, and you’re almost as geek as I am when it comes to geek carry-on. This is my list: Wallet, passport, Samsung digital camera + spare batteries, Playstation Portable + charger, 2 USB flash drives, universal USB card reader, Philips GoGear MP3 player, Sennheiser headphones, Sennheiser noise cancellation headphones + spare batteries, personal HTC Smartphone + charger, company Nokia cellphone + charger, two EU to USA power plugs, 75Watt 110V to 220V power converter, IBM Thinkpad + power supply, Logitech laptop mouse, and of course the absolutely vital hardcopy reading material.
He would of had a better story if the unidentifiable item was a pcocket vibrator- you know, in case you needed a little relase during the plane ride to relax you. Oh. Wait. That would have been MY bag.
